  I came here as a MS student, stayed for my PhD, and am currently a postdoc. I feel so fortunate to have found CSU and had the opportunity to work with and learn from the professors, students, and staff here. The department is highly respected in the field and strongly emphasizes training the next generation of scientists to do top-level research. As a student, I found that the graduate classes were challenging, but the professors and other students are helpful and encouraging (and the focus is on training and educating in order to do good research, not just get a good test/homework grade). The overall emphasis is on collaboration and support among students to do better research, not on competition. Professors encourage developing a good work-life balance, research group camaraderie, and also being actively engaged in the broader science community outside just your research topic.
